Glenfiddich

Introduction

Glenfiddich Single Malt is a meticulously crafted masterpiece of the highest quality. Our whiskies, ranging from the iconic 12-year-old to rare vintages and limited editions, are globally acclaimed for their unwavering quality.

Founder William Grant nurtured the dream of creating "the best dram in the valley" for over 20 years. With the help of his family, he finally achieved that dream.

Glenfiddich Distillery

Glenfiddich Distillery was established by William Grant in 1887. William, with the assistance of his nine children and one stonemason, built the distillery to pursue his lifelong dream of creating "the best dram in the valley." On Christmas Day, when everything was ready, the first drop of our spirit trickled from the copper stills.

Glenfiddich Distillery is one of the six distilleries still operating in Scotland. Throughout our long history, we have upheld tradition while embracing innovative techniques to create the finest whiskies. Our skilled craftsmen utilize copper stills and unique methods to meticulously craft our whiskies.

At Glenfiddich Distillery, special attention is given to the maturation of our whiskies. Maturation plays a significant role in the taste and flavor of whisky, so we carefully select casks and allow for extended maturation. We also have a dedicated cooperage on site, where craftsmen involved in barrel production and repair are stationed.

While steeped in history and tradition, Glenfiddich Distillery constantly strives for new challenges. We pursue innovative approaches and explore new possibilities for whisky. As a result, we have received numerous awards and high praise from whisky enthusiasts around the world.

Our distillery allows no compromises in whisky making. We always strive for the highest quality whisky and take pride in its quality and flavor. Glenfiddich whisky is Scotland's pride and the epitome of delight for whisky connoisseurs.

History

1887

William Grant made the decision to pursue his lifelong dream and started building his own distillery with the help of his nine children and one stonemason. He named the distillery "Glenfiddich," which means "Valley of the Deer" in Gaelic. After a year of meticulous preparation, on Christmas Day in 1887, the first drop of our spirit trickled from the copper stills.

1923

The era was in the midst of Prohibition. In such times, Grant Gordon, the grandson of William Grant, joined the family business and made groundbreaking efforts to increase whisky production. As laws changed over time, the number of distilleries operating in Scotland, including ours, reduced to just six. Nonetheless, we were prepared to meet the growing demand for high-quality whiskies.

1957

Charles Gordon, the great-grandson of William Grant, insisted on having coppersmiths permanently stationed at the distillery. These skilled craftsmen played a crucial role in the manufacturing and repair of our unique-shaped and sized stills.

1959

After having coppersmiths permanently stationed at the distillery, Charles Gordon also established a dedicated cooperage on site. He recognized the importance of casks in creating the finest whisky and believed it couldn't be overlooked. To this day, we are one of the few distilleries with an on-site cooperage.

1961

Water, malt, and terroir. Only when these three elements come together can Glenfiddich's exquisite flavor be born. Inspired by Glenfiddich, the 20th-century designer Hans Schleger devised a triangular bottle, which was considered revolutionary at the time.

1963

Sandy Grant Gordon, the great-grandson of William Grant and someone who took immense pride in our single malt, began actively selling Glenfiddich abroad earlier than other companies. This introduced consumers from around the world, who had not yet realized the greatness of single malt, to our whiskies. Previously, single malt had been a secret taste known only by the Scots.

1987

Our distillery celebrated its 100th anniversary in 1987. In honor of founder William Grant and his dream of creating "the best dram in the valley," commemorative bottles were produced to celebrate the centenary.

1991

A rare whisky worthy of joining our collection was announced. This was the first-ever 50-year-old whisky. The whisky perfectly married nine casks that had been maturing since the 1930s, paying homage to each of William Grant's nine children.

1998

This year, Glenfiddich achieved unprecedented innovation. Our Malt Master, who had been involved in whisky making for over 35 years and widely recognized, created the Solera Vat. This innovative Solera Vat was used for the Glenfiddich 15-year-old, and its complex and rich flavor is still widely loved today.

2001

Glenfiddich 64-year-old was released. When the new make spirit was filled into cask number 843 in 1937, the long journey of this whisky began. Over the years, ten warehousemen, generation after generation, managed the cask, but the angels took their share (meaning some evaporated). As a result, only a very limited quantity of 61 bottles of this extremely rare whisky was produced.

2009

The second 50-year-old whisky was released. This whisky is hand-blown and individually numbered on each bottle. Only 50 bottles are shipped each year. They are certified with Scottish silver and packaged in hand-stitched leather cases reminiscent of the leather-bound diary meticulously kept by William during his lifetime.

2010

This year, our warehouses were hit by heavy snow, causing a part of the roof to collapse and exposing valuable maturing casks to the cold. Our warehousemen worked tirelessly around the clock in minus 19-degree temperatures to protect all the whiskies. As a reward for their efforts, our Malt Master created a whisky named Snow Phoenix. He selected the best from the salvaged casks, further matured it, and completed a limited edition single malt. He truly turned adversity into an opportunity.

2011

Janet Sheed Roberts was the only granddaughter of our founder and garnered the highest praise and respect in the field of education during his lifetime. To commemorate her 110th birthday, a whisky named Janet Sheed Roberts Reserve was released as a limited edition of 11 bottles worldwide. All bottles were auctioned for charity, and the winning bid set a new world record.

Product Introduction

Glenfiddich 12 Year Old Special Reserve

The aroma and taste of tradition passed down since our establishment in 1887. A symbol of the Grant family's "Glenfiddich," it has won numerous prestigious awards worldwide.

We continue to use pure and soft Highland spring water, unchanged since the beginning, and our distinctive fruity character has been a strong focus since our establishment.

Carefully matured for a minimum of 12 years in the finest American oak casks and European sherry casks, it develops a sweet and complex oak flavor through further maturation.

Smooth, rich, and with a long finish, the 12 Year Old Special Reserve is considered a perfect representation of Glenfiddich's distinctive Speyside style and is widely acclaimed.

Glenfiddich 15 Year Old Solera Reserve

Enjoy the taste of maturation created by the Solera system.

Solera Reserve was developed by our Malt Master as a prime example of our history of innovation. During these 15 years, we applied the Solera system used for maturing in sherry casks. As a result, a subtly spicy and matured flavor was born. This flavor is said to be the result of the alchemy of a barrel called the "Solera Vat." The malt whisky matures in three types of casks - bourbon casks, new oak casks, and sherry casks - and then undergoes further maturation in the Solera Vat for about six months.

The Solera Vat used has never been emptied since 1998 and always contains more than half of the whisky.

Palate: Expansive smoothness, vanilla, cinnamon, subtly spicy

Glenfiddich 18 Year Old Small Batch Reserve

Selected Spanish Oloroso sherry cask and American oak casks aged for a minimum of 18 years are vatted and further matured for at least three months. By individually and strictly managing them in small batches, we express a deep and rich flavor. This genuine and exceptional single malt is a testament to 18 years of thorough management, care, and the craftsmanship that has been passed down through generations.

Glenfiddich 21 Year Old

Enjoy the smooth and complex flavor achieved through Caribbean Rum cask finishing.

This Speyside whisky has been carefully matured at the distillery for over 21 years. It is a traditional whisky that combines European sherry cask-aged malt whisky and American oak cask-aged malt whisky, with a finishing period of four months in Caribbean rum casks. This process results in the creation of an exotic flavor with hints of ginger, fig, lime, and more.
